Believed to to Ernest Henry Martin born at Hook Street in Littleport on 14th July 1918 (Ely Q3-1918 3B:702), baptised Littleport on 18th August
1918, son of Joseph Henry and Mary Elizabeth MARTIN (née CORNWELL). His father at the time as serving in the Royal Field Artillery.
In the 1939 register, his wife to be was a servant at 32 West Fen Road, Ely with Sidney and Hephzibah COVILLE, and his widower father [9-6-1890] a farm labourer, was at 46 The Crescent, Littleport with his sisters Eva E[8-12-1920] later LAMB, Beryl G [6-9-1927] later NASH and Olive M WATSON [22-12-1916] and her husband Harold WATSON [21-9-1908] farm labourer. His mother had died in 1935. He married Ann Christina BULLMAN [1-2-1917] in Q1-1940 (Ely 3B:1952), later of Newmarket. They seem to have had two sons, Michael and Percy and daughter Linda. Ernest was wounded and evacuated from his unit on 14th February in the fighting on Braddell Road, Singapore Initially recorded as missing, he was recognised as a prisoner of war on the roll of 15th February 1942, the day of the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese.
